The Moon's Role in the Appointed Times

The Moon's Role in the Appointed Times

Any calendar that rejects the moon’s role in determining appointed times is unbiblical.

Scripture makes it undeniably clear that the moon is for seasons. In Hebrew, “seasons” does not mean “spring/summer/fall/winter.” The Hebrew word used here is “moedim,” which means ‘an appointed time.’

“He appointed the moon for seasons [moedim]; the sun knows its going down.”
Psalm 104:19

Leviticus 23 lists Yahuah’s moedim/appointed times, in which the very first one listed is His weekly Sabbath. The Sabbath is an appointed time in Scripture. There are people who will dig their heels in on this and go through mental gymnastics to try to explain away why the weekly Sabbath is not an appointed time, but Scripture cannot make this any more clear (see next slide).

The annual appointed times listed in Leviticus 23 include:

-Passover & Feast of Unleavened Bread
-First Fruits
-Shavuot
-Day of Trumpets
-Day of Atonement
-Sukkot

And Yahuah spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘The feasts [moedim] of Yahuah, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts [moedim].

‘Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of Yahuah in all your dwellings.

‘These are the feasts [moedim] of Yahuah, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at their appointed times…’

Leviticus 23:1-4

e Sabbath is literally sandwiched right in the middle before Yahuah continues on with giving Moses His annual moedim/appointed times. So, if we let Scripture speak…if Yahuah’s Word says that the moon is for appointed times, and the weekly Sabbath is an appointed time, then we can confirm with Scripture that the moon appoints the weekly sabbaths.

This is not complicated. It is so, so simple when you let Scripture speak.

What makes it complicated is the conviction upon realizing that there may be more traditions of men that we must untangle ourselves from. I don’t share that without speaking from my own experience! While there are many different calendars out there, any calendar that boots the moon out is a false calendar. A lot of people are letting traditions of men and extra biblical books cloud their judgment on this matter. Jubilees, for example, is a book that is causing a lot of confusion and is leading many people to err in their understanding. We have to let Scripture speak when it comes to this matter. Using extra biblical books must be heavily tested against Scripture before they are used as scriptural doctrine.

Jubilees fails this test.

People use Jubilees 6:36-37 to say that people like me are deceived for using the moon in our observation of time, but Jubilees is in direct contradiction to Scripture. Let’s examine this passage:

“For there will be those who will assuredly make observations of the moon-how it disturbs the seasons and comes in from year to year ten days too soon. For this reason the years will come upon them when they will disturb (the order), and make an abominable (day) the day of testimony, and an unclean day a feast day, and they will confound all the days, the kodesh with the unclean, and the unclean day with the kodesh; for they will go wrong as to the months and Shabbats and feasts and jubilees.”Jubilees 6:36-37

Jubilees 2:9 is also a contradiction of Yah’s word. Let’s examine this verse:

"And Elohim appointed the sun to be a great sign on the earth for days and for sabbaths and for months and for feasts and for years and for sabbaths of years and for jubilees and for all seasons of the years."
Jubilees 2:9

Without knowing the Hebrew words used, I would have to assume that the word “feasts” here is also referring to the moedim/appointed times. Either way, Psalm 104:19 says that the moon is appointed for moedim (which includes the Sabbaths), but Jubilees is saying that the sun is appointed for that role.

We have a verse in Psalms that says the moon is for appointed times, and a verse in Jubilees that says people will err if they use the moon for appointed times, claiming the sun has that role. This presents a very big problem.

Yahuah’s word does not contradict itself.

To believe Jubilees is inspired Scripture is to by default, call Yahuah a liar. It is obvious that Jubilees contradicts our Father’s Word. This means that Jubilees CANNOT be used as Scripture.

Choose today who you will serve.

Jubilees not only contradicts the instructions for determining appointed times, but it contradicts prophecy.

People really don’t realize and grasp the gravity of why this is so serious.

Let me explain...

“Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David: His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before Me; it shall be established forever like the moon, as the faithful witness in the sky. Selah.”
Psalm 89:35-38

This is a heavy, prophetic verse.

Yahuah is linking the establishment of the moon as a faithful witness, just as the seed of David/throne of Messiah endures forever.

He is using the moon to establish that this testimony is solid. His ordinances for His luminaries are unchanging.

Jeremiah 31:35-36 says that if those ordinances for the sun and moon ever depart from Him, then Israel will cease from being a nation, forever. We MUST take our Father’s Word for it.

We can’t reason around this.

The psalmist is saying that as faithful as the moon is, so is the seed and throne of David...which is Messiah!

This is not simply a “calendar debate,” or a different way of interpreting Scripture—this is about rejecting what YAHUAH has ordained and established forever.

Anyone who says the moon is not for appointed times (the yearly appointments and the weekly Sabbath) is also attacking the throne of my Messiah. I don’t take that lightly and I cannot dismiss the seriousness of this.

Contradicting the faithful witness of the moon is also contradicting the throne of Messiah, in which both are everlasting. Out of ALL things, Yahuah used the moon to make this connection.

This is so much deeper than a “calendar issue.”

Those ordinances for the sun and moon are laid out for us in Genesis 1:14-16 and Psalm 104:19... Clear. As. Day.

You can say what you want about me, my heart posture, and my intentions…but we are called to guard the commandments. I’ve never been more attacked over anything as much as I have been the calendar. I believe Scripture makes clear what many people are dismissing today, for the sake of “not causing division.”

This is why I absolutely reject Jubilees, and any other calendar that boots the moon out of something Yahuah said He established forever.

If it attacks the moedim, it attacks Messiah Himself.

My Father’s Word says that the moon is a faithful witness in heaven, and Proverbs 14:5 says that “a faithful witness does not lie, but a false witness will utter lies.”

While I am always willing to learn and grow and repent, I do not want to be charged with uttering lies, therefore I will not yield from the role that the moon plays in timekeeping, according to Scripture.

It’s OKAY to keep studying this out.

It’s OKAY to not have it all figured out.

We are in a constant walk of sanctification.

But you need to know why it is so dangerous to reject the moon in your pursuit of truth, and there are a lot of people teaching others to reject what Yahuah has ordained forever.

We must be truly testing everything. Let Yah be true, and every man a liar.

His ways are so, so simple.

With Love,

Stephanie Green
