Why We Must Stop Saying "God is Not the Author of Confusion."

Why We Must Stop Saying "God is Not the Author of Confusion."

We have to stop saying: "God is not the author of confusion." This statement is not true and it's not scriptural.

I know where people get this belief from that the Most High doesn’t cause confusion—from 1 Corinthians 14:33. And I know that it literally says in our Bible, “God is not the author of confusion.” But this verse is being greatly misapplied to mean something that it doesn’t. And I want to show you how and why.

Remember 2 Peter 3:16-17...Paul’s words are hard to understand. We have to put into context what Paul is actually saying in his letter to the Corinthians. We need to know who and what Paul is addressing. This verse is explicitly referring to orderly worship and proper behavior in the congregation of the saints. Paul is not referring to the character of Yahuah in this verse—he is referring to behavior within the body of Messiah. Please see the previous blog post "Mistranslations Explained: 1 Corinthians 14:33."

This verse has been entirely taken out of context and misapplied to the character of our Father, and I’m seeing brothers and sisters constantly use this verse to validate that if something is “confusing” then it can’t be from the Most High.

Many people believe that Yahuah wouldn’t cause His people to be confused. But according to Scripture, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

I am not saying that Yahuah wants us to be confused. But confusion WILL happen when we are not in line with HIS will.

That’s exactly WHY He causes confusion, so we will seek Him on everything so that we can better understand who He is and what His will is.

If there is something that is confusing to you, it doesn’t always mean that it’s from the enemy, and it doesn’t always mean that the Most High is punishing you. He’s disciplining you. He’s testing your faith to see if you will seek Him to remove those stumbling blocks for you. It’s all about perspective. This is why now, every time I feel “confused,” I know that it is Yahuah’s way of telling me that I need to seek Him more. The truth of the matter is that Yahuah DOES cause confusion.

Here are my witnesses:

#1:

“I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I Yahuah do all these things.”
Isaiah 45:7

Who created evil?

#2:

“For Yahuah has poured out on you the spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes...”
Isaiah 29:10

Who poured out the spirit of a deep sleep?

#3:

“Then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says Yahuah: “Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land—even the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—with drunkenness.”
Jeremiah 13:13

Who filled the inhabitants of the earth with (spiritual) drunkenness?

#4:

“They have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations. I will also choose their delusions...”
Isaiah 66:3-4

Who chooses their delusions?

#5:

“Let us go down and confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”
Genesis 11:7

Who caused the confusion?

#6:

Just as it is written: “Elohim has given them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see and ears that they should not hear, to this very day.”
Romans 11:8

Who closed their eyes and ears?

#7:

“And for this cause, Elohim shall send them a strong delusion, that they should believe the lie.”
2 Thessalonians 2:11

Who sends the strong delusion?

Who caused all of these things?

YAHUAH.

Scripture makes it very clear by the account of multiple witnesses that Yahuah does and will cause confusion.

I am not insinuating anything negative about the character of our Heavenly Father.

But I believe that 1 Corinthians 14:33 has been misapplied to the point that the body of believers have a skewed understanding of the nature of Yahuah and the true purpose of why He sends confusion and delusion.

And when that verse is always thrown out there to insinuate that confusion is a bad thing and not really “from God,” it misrepresents who He is, and it contradicts what Scripture actually says. Which is why I feel led to address it.

Whenever we choose ways that do not align with Him, Yahuah brings “spiritual slumber, drunkenness, delusions, etc.” on people. Even in the last days, we know that it is Yahuah that is sending “strong delusions” on people who refuse to love the truth.

I will say and testify to this though. The more I obey, the less I’m confused. I look back on the things I’ve learned and I can see how confusion is what led me to Him. I’m thankful for it all. He disciplines those He loves and puts stumbling blocks in our path so that we can see that anything outside of His will leads to destruction.

"In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths."
Proverbs 3:6

With love,

Stephanie
